Opening scene
- INT. THE FAMILIES HOUSE. AFTERNOON
- The camera shows a total of the house. Then you can see AYUB sitting in the kitchen with his MOTHER. He wants to talk about his job as a hairdresser he had to accept because his FATHER made him.
- AYUB
- (worried) Mum, we have to talk ... about the job!
- MOTHER
- (confused) Which job? … What are you talking about?
- AYUB
- (a bit peeved) Mum, I told you about it: the job father made me accept.
- MOTHER
- Ohm, forgive me sweetheart, you know it’s hard for me to remember things recently. All the matters of 10 children don´t make it easier. Don’t be disappointed.
- AYUB
- It’s OK Mum, I know it’s hard for you, so don’t worry. But let us talk about the employment as a hairdresser, please!
- MOTHER
- Ayub, I know you hate this job, but your father is so proud of you and your work and …
- You can hear steps from the background
- The camera makes a pan to the floor where the father comes from.
- You don´t see him yet, but you can hear him
- FATHER
- Honey, I’m at home again…(arrives in the kitchen) Ohm Ayub, you’re here, too?(indicativ) I thought you have to work.
- AYUB
- Well, you know… !
- MOTHER
- Sajid, please! Can’t you turn to another topic until you have eaten something? See, you came home just now and I think you should relax a little bit before you talk about this serious subject.
- FATHER
- No Ella! Don’t interfere within the talk. It’s between me and my son! So go and look after my other children, please.
- Mother leaves the room louring
- AYUB
- Father, don’t… !
- FATHER
- (interrupts his son, is angry) Shut up! I had a talk with your boss! He told me that you´re no one he can bank on. He related that you´re not on time and that you´re not very involved in your work. He is very disappointed of you. And of ME. Of ME, son! Do you know why ? (he is getting more and more angry) Because he is a friend of mine and I told him you would make a good job if he gives you a try! That´s the only reason why you have this job!
- AYUB
- That’s the problem! I don’t want to be a hairdresser! All my life I wanted to go to drama school.
- FATHER
- (laughing in a ironic way) Drama school? Do you know how much a student at the drama school earns? Nothing! Nada! Did you think about who would pay the dues? No chance that I will be this person! (starts to shout again) Where did you get this stupid idea? You can be lucky to have a paid job! It’s your task to support the family! Look at me: I earned my first own money when I was thirteen. It was during the summer holidays and I worked in a restaurant where I had to clean the toiletts! My father was so proud of me! And look at me now: I have my own restaurant and I can care for the big family to which you belong, too.
- AYUB
- It’s not my fault that I have eleven siblings. I don´t want to end like you, I don´t want to sacrifice myself for my family. I don´t want to have such a boring life like you!
- FATHER
- Don’t get cheeky …
- During the fight the camera makes a pan from outside the house, you hear the two men shouting
- Mother arrives in the kitchen again
- MOTHER
- Sajid, please stop to shout out loud in our house! Why don’t you eat something and you two talk about it later, when we all calmed down?
- AYUB
- Don’t you see that you can’t talk with this man? I am fed up to the back teeth.
- (leaves the room angrily and disappointed of his father)
